RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Felician College freshman Matthew Facendo (Hazlet, NJ/Raritan) has been selected as the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Baseball Rookie of the Week, the CACC announced on Monday.
Facendo, a 6-foot-4 right-handed pitcher, made a pair of relief appearances during a 1-4 week for the Golden Falcons. In 3 2/3 innings, he combined to allow two hits and one unearned run, struck out seven batters, and walked one. He pitched a scoreless inning with two strikeouts in Felician's lone victory of the week, a 5-2 triumph over Molloy College in Boca Raton, Fla., on Saturday.
On the season, Facendo has appeared in five games for the Golden Falcons. He is 0-0 with a 6.35 earned-run average. In 5 2/3 innings, he has given up six hits, struck out 10 batters, and walked two. Facendo is a 2010 graduate of Raritan High.
Facendo is the second consecutive Felician right-handed pitcher to be named CACC Rookie of the Week. Fellow freshman Chet Godfrey (Millville, NJ/Millville) was honored on March 6.
Felician is a member of NCAA Division II. The Golden Falcons have a 5-12 overall won-lost record heading into tonight's home opener against Lincoln (Pa.) University at 7 p.m. at the Lyndhurst Recreation Complex.
