Felician Puts Five On All-CACC Baseball Teams

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – Four Felician College baseball players – Mike Farrell (Lincroft, NJ/Middletown North), Shane Junger (Waretown, NJ/Southern Regional), Joel Sanchez (Hialeah, FL/Monsignor Pace) and Jimmy Simpson (Biscayne Park, FL/Coral Gables) have been elected to the All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Baseball Second Team, the CACC released today. The conference's 11 head coaches voted on the award winners.

Farrell, a sophomore third baseman, was honored for the first time. In 38 games (32 starts), he batted .266 with 10 extra base hits, including one home run, 10 runs scored, and tied for the team lead with 18 runs batted in.

Junger, a junior pitcher, was elected to the Second Team relief pitcher spot. The right-hander pitched 30 1/3 innings in 14 appearances, all in relief, posting a 2-1 record, one save, and a 2.97 earned-run average. He allowed 25 hits, struck out 16 batters and walked eight, and opponents hit .225 off of him. He had a 1.69 ERA in CACC games.

Sanchez earns his second consecutive all-CACC award after being voted to the First Team in 2010. This season, he had a 6-3 record and a school-record 1.33 ERA (3rd in the CACC). His four complete games included a shutout of first-place Dominican (N.Y.) College on April 13. In 74 2/3 innings he yielded 57 hits, struck out 61 batters and walked 23, and opponents hit .229 off of him.

Simpson was chosen to his first all-conference team, and was named at the utility position. He started 21 games at second base, 16 at third base and two in left field. He led Felician in hitting (.300) and on-base percentage (.393) with four doubles, two triples, 21 runs scored and 17 RBI.

Sophomore outfielder Joe Petosa (Spotswood, NJ/Spotswood) was an Honorable Mention All-CACC honoree. Petosa batted .277, topping Felician in both hits (39) and walks (22). He scored 16 runs, drove in 18, and stole nine bases in 43 games.

The NCAA Division II Golden Falcons completed the 2011 season with a 24-22 won-lost record. They tied for sixth place in the CACC with a 10-10 league mark. The complete 2011 All-CACC Baseball Teams can be viewed at www.caccathletics.org/sports/bsb/2010-11/releases/All-CACC_Bsb.
