RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Felician College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) was active in several charitable endeavors in February. Under the leadership of staff advisor Ivan Lewis and second-year president Josh Delva (South Orange, N.J./Columbia), the Golden Falcons’ SAAC has made its presence felt both on campus and in the northern New Jersey Community.

After beginning the month by taking advantage of two Felician women-men basketball doubleheaders to run successful charitable fundraisers, the student-athlete group made its second consecutive trip to a local Tomorrow’s Children’s fund event and assisted with physical labor to set up a charity auction.

“Josh Delva and the rest of our SAAC seniors have provided wonderful leadership,” Lewis said. “Their recruitment has brought us to more than 20 members, and they have done a tremendous job rejuvenating the SAAC on our campus.”

On Feb. 10, the SAAC ran a fundraiser for the National Make-A-Wish Foundation in conjunction with the Golden Falcons’ basketball games against Holy Family University. Despite the doubleheader being a make-up from a snow-out the previous day, the group raised $235 for Make-A-Wish, of which NCAA Division II is a fundraising advocate.

Two nights later, the SAAC took the lead in running the basketball teams’ annual Play4Kay Night to support breast cancer awareness. Through gate donations, raffles, and apparel sales, the group raised $366 for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund during home games against Dominican (N.Y.) College.

Two days after that, group members used their strength as athletes to help the Tomorrows Children’s Fund (TCF), based out of the nearby Hackensack University Medical Center, fill and unload a moving truck with toys which were later auctioned off at TCF’s “Tricky Tray” event. TCF is dedicated to easing the pain and speeding the healing of children with cancer and serious blood disorders.

“What a remarkable group of Felician student-athletes Ivan Lewis brought to help us with our Tricky Tray event,” said Sue Garbe, the TCF’s administrative director. “The entire group was so eager to help and was extremely polite. The work ethic that this group had was amazing. Felician College should be proud of how they were represented, and I am looking forward to working with them at future events!”
