RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The Felician College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee has been active in October. Under the leadership of staff advisor Ivan Lewis and president Josh Delva (South Orange, NJ/Columbia), the Golden Falcons’ SAAC has made its presence known both on campus and in the northern New Jersey community.

“We’re making a strong commitment to staying active and making a difference both on campus and off,” Lewis said. “I believe that our current members and officers are great representatives of our teams and will serve the SAAC well.”

The group has done most of its recent work in support of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the national SAAC charity for NCAA Division II.  In a recent fundraiser, Felician’s SAAC sponsored IPad Madness in conjunction with the College’s Midnight Madness celebration.

Committee members held a weeklong raffle in the days leading up to the Oct. 14 on-campus Midnight Madness event. The winner of the raffle prize, an IPad, was chosen at the conclusion of the festivities. Ipad Madness raised $600 to be donated to Make-A-Wish.

Two days later, the Committee donated their time to the cause, waking up early on a Sunday morning to participate in the North Jersey Walk for Wishes, sponsored by the Make-A-Wish Foundation of New Jersey. Group members walked three miles around the perimeter of Liberty State Park in Jersey City.

The Felician SAAC also assisted the women’s volleyball team on “Dig Pink” Night at an Oct. 20 home match. By selling merchandise, concessions and raffle tickets on behalf of the volleyball squad, the SAAC assisted the team in raising more than $700 for breast cancer research.

“I hope and expect that these events are just the beginning of our contributions to our community,” Lewis said.
